SS-UBT leader Anil D. Parab, who is a candidate from the Mumbai Graduate constituency in the Legislative Council elections, said last year he had introduced a private bill in this regard.

"This Bill was introduced to solve the housing problems faced by the Marathi speaking people in the city and their declining population as they are deprived of housing due to religion or their (non-vegetarian) food habits. Accordingly, I There seems to be an urgent need for such a law for Marathi people,” Parab told media persons.

He also said that there are many complaints of Marathi people not getting houses and expressed hope that the Mahayuti government will meet the demands of affordable housing for the sons of the land in the Legislative session.

The current estimated population of Mumbai is around 1.80 crore, which includes about 40 per cent of the people living in large and small slums spread across the city and suburbs, while the Mumbai Metropolitan Region has a population of around 2.61 crore.
