New Delhi: The National Zoological Park at Pragati Maidan in Delhi will soon introduce an option on its website, allowing visitors to book their tickets up to 15 days in advance.

The new option will also allow visitors to reschedule their outings and get refunds if tickets are cancelled, an official said on Monday.

As of now, if a visitor wants to visit the zoo, they can only buy tickets till 5 pm on the same day, after which the counters are closed for booking.

Since the Central Zoo attracts a huge number of tourists, the zoo director said that transformation plans are underway and a number of issues will be addressed in the coming months.

"There were some issues with the payment gateway, so we are opening an additional payment gateway for the convenience of visitors," said Sanjeev Kumar, director of the National Zoological Park.

He said that currently, visitors can buy tickets for the day till 5 pm and they are valid for that day only. “To address this issue, we will launch a portal for advance booking.”

The facility will allow visitors to plan their journey in advance and book tickets ahead of time, Kumar said.

Delhi Zoo is situated on a 176-acre site behind the historic Purana Qila and has been a major landmark since its inception in 1952.

According to Kumar, this new feature will also be helpful for the management as they will already have data on the number of visitors.

He said, this will help in estimating how many people will come through online booking, so that proper arrangements can be made.

Earlier, an official had said that there is a transformation plan for the Delhi Zoo, with a focus on enhancing its look and visitor experience while introducing new animal species.
