New Delhi [India], Center for Child and Adolescent Welfare (CCAW), Department of Social Work, University of Delhi has taken an initiative to provide equal opportunities for skill development to underprivileged children through summer workshops.

This summer workshop was organized from 6th to 13th June for the underprivileged children of nearby slums and open communities.

Director CCAW Shashi Rani Dev, Associate Professor Department of Social Work took this initiative under the department area expansion project CCAW.

This workshop was organized to utilize the school summer vacation time for skill building and knowledge by providing equal opportunities to the underprivileged children from poor social and economic backgrounds.

Dev said that being a social worker working with children is an important area to focus on, children are the future of the country and regardless of their socio-economic background they have equal rights to participation and holistic development .With this spirit and vision, the CCAW Summer Workshop was successfully organized and the valedictory function was held on 13 June 2024 at the Department of Social Work, Balram Pani, Dean of Colleges, Delhi University, was the chief guest at the event. Neera Agnimitra welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries.

Dean of Colleges, Delhi University, Balram Pani inspired the children to adopt good value system and become good citizens of the country.

He also saw the potential of the children through their performances and artwork displayed at the event. He interacted with children and parents to get their feedback about the workshop and the skills learned.He also appreciated the efforts and commitment of Dr. Shashi Rani Dev towards social cause.

At the end of this unique workshop, the children were honored with participation certificates by Professor Neena Pandey, Acting Head of the Department of Social Work and other faculty members. In the end, Professor Pamela Singla thanked the Chief Guest, children, faculty and other stakeholders present in the programme.

In this summer workshop children learned various skills through various activity-based sessions. Self defense training session was organized with the help of Delhi Police staff Shakti Singh.Other interesting sessions on arts and crafts, value education, gender sensitization, safety and protection, career counselling, healthy food and hygiene are also organized for these children.
