New Delhi: Delhi Police has booked fugitive gangster Himanshu Bhau and his gang members under the stringent MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act) for running an extortion syndicate and threatening business in Delhi, officials said on Friday. Have registered.

21-year-old Bhau, a resident of Rohtak, Haryana, has more than 50 cases registered against him of attempt to murder, extortion, intimidation and Arms Act in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. Currently, he is suspected to be living in Spain and running the syndicate from there. Said.

Police said his three associates were involved in the firing at a second-hand luxury car showroom in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar area on May 6.No one was shot in this incident but seven people were injured when the showroom glass was broken in the firing.

On May 7, the showroom owner received a threatening call from an international VOI number and the caller identified himself as Himanshu Bhau and demanded a ransom of Rs five crore.

The local police had registered a case of attempt to murder and extortion which was later transferred to the crime branch.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Bhatia said that during the investigation, it was found that the syndicate of Himanshu Bhau and his associates was continuously indulging in illegal activities for financial gain.

Bhatia said, therefore, MCOCA has been imposed against his gang and further investigation is underway.

The officer said Bhau became involved in crime since his teenage years and fled Dooba in 2022 using a fake passport.He is running his syndicate from abroad by changing locations from one country to another.

Earlier, agencies had traced his location to Portugal.

Another office said Bhau, who is backed by Punjab's notorious Bambiha gang, has links with jailed Delhi gangsters Neeraj Bawana and Naveen Bali.

Interpol had issued a Red Corner Notice against him in 2023.
