New Delhi, Commissioner Sanjay Arora said that Delhi Police has started registering FIRs under three new criminal laws that came into force on Monday.

The new laws – the Indian Judicial Code (BNS), the Indian Civil Defense Code (BNSS) and the Indian Evidence Act (BSA) replaced the British-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act respectively. - came into effect on Monday, which will bring far-reaching changes to India's criminal justice system.

Arora told reporters during the Delhi Police Commissionerate Day celebrations at Kingsway Camp that the force is fortunate that the new laws came into force on this day.

"We are lucky because today is our Commissionerate Day and these laws are being implemented on the same day," Arora said.

“Every year on Commissionerate Day, we take an oath to serve the people with honesty and dedication,” he said.

Arora said the first FIR under the new laws was lodged early Monday.

Delhi Police filed its first FIR under the provisions of BNS against a street vendor in Kamla Market area.
