New Delhi, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has recommended empowering Assistant Traffic Inspector (ATI) rank officers of DTC to issue challans to buses violating lane discipline under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

An official statement said that this recommendation has been sent to the Honorable Lieutenant Governor for approval.

Gehlot said, “Empowering assistant traffic inspectors of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to issue challans for lane violations is an important step to enhance road safety and ensure that our buses follow traffic rules. "

He said, "This measure will not only improve traffic flow but also reduce accidents and increase the overall efficiency of our public transport system. We are committed to making Delhi's roads safer and more orderly for all commuters." "

Under this recommendation, ATI will be authorized to issue challans to violating buses under sections 177, 184 and 192A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Under Section 177, a fine of Rs 500 is imposed for the first offense and Rs 1,500 for the subsequent offence.

Under Section 184, a fine of Rs 5,000 is imposed for the first offense and Rs 10,000 for the second or subsequent offense involving the use of handheld communication devices.

Under Section 192A, a fine of Rs 10,000 is imposed on traffic violations.
