New Delhi [India], The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Sunday that it is rapidly moving forward with its Phase 4 expansion, aiming to open the three priority corridors comprising 65 kilometers of new lines by 2026.

In a post on X, DMRC said that more than 50 per cent of the work on these corridors has been completed. Specifically, the Majlis Park-Maujpur section has achieved around 80 per cent completion in civil works. Tunnels are being constructed on the Aerocity-Tughlakabad (Gold Line) and Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (Magenta Line) corridors.

Regarding the delays in the project, DMRC explained that despite starting Phase 4 in December 2019, the project faced major delays from 2020 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and challenges in obtaining logging permits. trees. The DMRC noted that substantial work has been going on on the project for the last one and a half to two years, with the aim of completing it by 2026.

The section from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension is almost complete and expected to open in August 2024, and the Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor is also scheduled to be completed next year. Other sections will open gradually until 2026.

However, the DMRC is still waiting for certain permissions related to felling of trees and land acquisition at specific sites. High-level site visits are being made to expedite work and the necessary approvals for tree felling are being actively sought. Also, two new corridors, Inderlok-Indraprastha and Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar, received approval recently.

"The project is monitored on a daily basis at various levels. Site visits are also carried out at the highest level to expedite the work. Tree felling permits are being processed at the appropriate levels." DMRC said in an official statement.

The DMRC is currently obtaining statutory clearances, including land acquisition, and is in the process of planning and bidding for additional civil works, ensuring the project remains on track towards its 2026 completion target.
