New Delhi [India], Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday conducted a joint anti-encroachment drive at Municipal Park in Y Block, Mangolpuri, Kanjhawala Road.

According to an official statement from the MCD, "This initiative was part of the MCD's ongoing efforts to address unauthorized religious encroachments and maintain the integrity of public spaces."

MCD with the help of police force of five companies started demolishing the illegally extended boundary wall of the encroachment.

"The operation successfully removed a 20-metre portion of the unauthorized structure. However, the situation deteriorated when a large crowd gathered, forming a human chain to obstruct the entry of the JCB into the area," the statement said.

Additionally, the presence of women protesters sitting on unauthorized structures complicated the law and order situation.

Despite their tireless efforts, officers were unable to safely disperse the crowd.

In light of these developments, the police advised the MCD to temporarily stop the encroachment removal operations to maintain peace and order.

"A status report regarding this issue has been filed in the Delhi High Court in WC (P) No. 4867/2024," the MCD statement said.

The MCD remains steadfast in its commitment to enforce the rule of law and ensure orderly development of the city and is currently in the process of rescheduling the encroachment removal schedule.
