He further informed that control rooms have also been set up at zonal and ward levels which will work 24 hours, all day and all night to resolve the issues of the public.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Shelly Oberoi said, "As the monsoon is approaching Delhi, like every year, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has made arrangements and is ready for it."

“MCD has held various meetings and discussions with senior officials of Delhi government regarding monsoon action planning and preparedness. We have also held inter-departmental meetings with officials of PWD, DDA and Irrigation Fund in this regard.MCD Oberoi said, officials held a meeting with Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj ji and we have implemented the action plan.

He further informed that the action plan has been divided into two phases – pre-monsoon and post-monsoon and works are carried out accordingly.

The MCD mayor said, "For phase 1, which is basically the pre-monsoon phase, we have cleared 92 per cent of the drains which are more than 4 feet deep. As for the drains which are about 4 feet or less, The depth is there, we have cleaned around 85 percent. For phase 2, MCD will take action after the monsoon leaves.,

Addressing one of the major issues of water logging in the city, Shelley said, "The problem of water logging is a perennial issue in Delhi. Last year's rains had made the situation worse and created a flood-like situation in the capital city. But, this time MCD is fully prepared for this and “Quick Response Team” has also been established to regularly monitor the situation in 12 zones.

Giving information, he said, "Also, we have identified areas vulnerable to waterlogging and have made arrangements for the same in advance. We have checked all the temporary and permanent pumps installed.We have also created a control room in each zone which will work round the clock and resolve the complaints of the complainants.”

"We have also created a control room at the ward level which will include MCD members from different departments. They will be responsible for constant monitoring of the situation in the wards."

According to data provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the onset of monsoon occurs around June 30.Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department said light rain is likely in the national capital over the next three to four days amid challenging weather conditions across the country.

IMD scientist Soma Sen told ANI, "Red alert has been issued in North India. The northwest Himalayan region of India including Punjab and Haryana will remain cloudy from the evening and rain is also expected... heat wave conditions will subside. It is likely to happen." Punjab and Haryana... Orange alert will be issued in Delhi from tomorrow..."

"Delhi is likely to receive rain, called pre-monsoon rain, due to south-westerly winds in the next three or four days. The heat waves may subside.The discomfort you are feeling indicates that humidity is increasing in your area," Sen added.

Meanwhile, Delhiites are currently battling the scorching heat, for which a red alert has been issued on Tuesday.

IMD said that there is a possibility of heat wave in many parts of the country on June 18.

“Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely over many parts of Uttar Pradesh and parts of Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on 18 June 2024 and heatwave at isolated places over Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bihar and situation is likely to occur.Jharkhand,” IMD said in a post on X.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in the national capital was recorded at 34.8 degrees Celsius at 08:30 am today.

The weather agency had also warned that extreme heat would continue in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh till June 19.
