The deceased was identified as Nazir alias Nanhe, a resident of Chauhan Bangar in Jaffrabad area.
Officials said he was a 'bad character' of Jaffrabad police station and had several criminal cases registered against him, including robbery and attempt to murder.
A police control room (PCR) call regarding the incident was received around noon. And a police team reached the spot.
"Around 6.45 pm, Nazir was traveling on his scooter when some boys attacked him with knives near Mangla Hospital Wali Gali, Chauhan Bangar, Jafrabad," said Joy Tirkey, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northeast.
He was found dead on the road, about 250 meters from his home.
“CCTV footage in the area is being scanned and efforts are being made to identify the culprits,” the DCP said. He said that a case of murder has been registered and a team has been formed to solve the case.
