According to Raj Niwas, the Chief Secretary and CEO of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) were also present in the meeting, which revealed to the Lieutenant Governor and ministers that a team from the Upper Yamuna River Board (UYRB) was also present along with senior officials. City government and Haryana government officials inspected the water supply at the head of Munak canal towards Delhi on Sunday evening.

The Lieutenant Governor's office said the team found that the water supply from Haryana was adequate.

As per the inspection report, it was reported that Haryana released 2,289 cusecs of water into Munak Canal in Haryana on June 9 and the quantity of water released from Munak to Kakori specifically for supply to Delhi was 1,161.084 cusecs against the quota of 1,050 cusecs of water. Was. ,

“However, water received from Munak canal at Bawana in Delhi was 960.78 cusecs, a loss of 200 cusecs or 18 per cent on that date.As per accepted norms these losses should be less than 5 per cent,” the L-G office said.

The Munak Canal is the main source from where Delhi gets water from Haryana to supply seven of Delhi's nine water treatment plants (WTPs).

“During transit, a huge amount of water is lost and stolen due to non-maintenance of Munak Canal in Delhi. This is due to leakage due to non-repair of the canal lining and also theft by tankers, who were also seen lifting water unauthorized during inspection,'' Raj Niwas officials said.

At the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor also shared photographs with the ministers which showed tankers parked along the Munak Canal in Delhi illegally lifting water. However, it was also informed that during the current heat wave conditions, Munak Canal received an average of 948 cusecs of water during May and an average of 870 MGD of water so far in June.

It was also revealed during the meeting that it is not yet known whether Himachal Pradesh is actually releasing 137 cusecs of additional water into Yamuna or not. The Lieutenant Governor asked ministers to take up the matter with the Himachal Pradesh government,'' an official said.

“It was also reported that from June 1-8, all the WTPs except one in Delhi were operating above their capacity and even on June 8, 854 MGD of water was produced against the capacity of 821 MGD.

“Wazirabad WTP was the only one which was operating under its capacity and even on June 8, its production was 119.5 MGD against the capacity of 131 MGD,” the official said.,

The issue of inordinate delay in commissioning of Chandrawal and Dwarka WTP, pending for years, was also discussed in the meeting.

While it was highlighted that the Chandrawal WTP was delayed due to Covid, the one in Dwarka, which had a commissioning date of just 18 months, was behind schedule due to lack of funds.

“The issue of 54 per cent unaccounted water and 40 per cent leakage in Delhi due to theft and unrepaired pipelines was again raised by the Lieutenant Governor and it was agreed by the ministers that a concrete action would soon be taken to address this issue. The plan will be prepared. DJB,” the officer said.

The Lieutenant Governor has assured that he will take up the issue of water supply with the Haryana Government and request them to provide additional water on humanitarian grounds. The official said the Lieutenant Governor also assured that the staffing issue at the DJB and the additional burden on its CEO would be addressed at the earliest.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference after the meeting, Bhardwaj said that as a minister, he can say with full responsibility that the press release issued by the Lieutenant Governor's office is "misleading".

"This is a false attempt to misrepresent the facts. When we met the Lieutenant Governor, he had installed three cameras to record the meeting. I am requesting the Lieutenant Governor to put the recording of the meeting in the public domain .The people of Delhi and the country should see what was discussed. I am challenging the Lieutenant Governor."
