New Delhi: The Delhi government's fact-finding committee on Tuesday visited Satbari in the Southern Ridge area, where 1,100 trees were reportedly cut without proper permission.

Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed that "stumps and trunks of felled trees are being moved to cover up the whole thing."

He said that land from nearby farmhouses could have been acquired to build the road, but instead, trees in the forested area were cut down.

Revenue Minister Atishi, who is also part of the three-member fact-finding committee, alleged that "officials were hiding facts from them and avoiding attending the meeting".

He said the committee will submit its report before the Supreme Court which is considering the matter.

AAP leaders have alleged that on the verbal instructions of the Lieutenant Governor, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) cut 1,100 trees in the Southern Ridge area.

The party-led Delhi government has constituted a fact-finding committee comprising ministers Bhardwaj, Atishi and Imran Hussain to look into the matter.

Recently, BJP had shown some alleged documents related to this matter and claimed that the trees were cut after the approval of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Environment Minister Gopal Rai.
