New Delhi: An official statement on Tuesday said that the Delhi government has sent the file related to the premature release of 14 convicts to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena for approval.

Delhi Home Minister Kailash Gehlot held a meeting of the Sentence Review Board (SRB) with other members including Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Director General (Prisons), Principal Secretary (Law), Principal District Judge, Special Commissioner of Police and Director General of Prisons. Social welfare on 23rd February.

In the meeting, the SRB considered a total of 92 cases and in 14 cases, premature release of the culprits from jail was recommended. The statement said that the proposal has been submitted to the Lieutenant Governor for approval.

"The Sentence Review Board has carefully considered each case on its individual merits, keeping in mind the principles of justice and rehabilitation," Gehlot said, according to the statement.

“The recommended early release reflects our commitment to returning reformed individuals back into society and reducing the burden on our prison system. “We believe in giving second chances to those who have shown genuine improvement and remorse during their incarceration,” he said.
