New Delhi: BRS leader K Kavitha's judicial custody was on Tuesday extended by two weeks in a money laundering case related to Delhi Excise Policy after e alleged that she attempted to influence witnesses and tampered with evidence.

Special judge for ED and CBI cases Kaveri Baweja extended Kavita's custody till April 23, when she was produced before the court at the expiry of her judicial custody granted earlier.

The judge took note of ED's contention that Kavita attempted to influence witnesses and tampered with evidence.

“Therefore, his judicial custody should be extended,” the ED told the court.

Advocate Nitish Rana, appearing for Kavita, opposed the ED's plea to extend her custody, saying there was nothing new in the investigation agency's application after her arrest."There is no new ground. Nothing is mentioned in the application," the lawyer told the court.

The judge had on Monday refused to grant interim bail to Kavita and said that prima facie she not only destroyed the evidence but also played an important role in influencing the witness and even in the event of relief being granted by me, she would not have done so. Meanwhile, sources said on Tuesday that the CBI has interrogated Kavita in Tiha jail, where she is lodged after her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.
