New Delhi [India], Delhi's Patiala House Court on Tuesday granted two hours' bail to jailed Kashmiri leader Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Rashid Engineer, to take oath as Member of Parliament (MP). July 5th.

Rashid was elected from the Baramulla seat as an independent candidate, defeating National Conference leader Omar Abdullah in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

He has applied for interim bail or conditional release to be sworn in as an MP.

Special Judge Chander Jit Singh granted bail to Rashid Engineer, subject to certain conditions.

"Probation into custody is permitted for 2 hours or until the conclusion of the proceedings, whichever is later. The period excludes travel time," the judge said.

"Spouses and children who present identification documents may be present during the taking and signing of the oath," he added.

Neither Engineer Rashid can access the phone nor interact with anyone except the officials involved, the judge said in the order.

He is also not allowed to address or speak to the media on any issue, the order said, adding that engineer Rashid's family members are not allowed to take photographs of the ceremony or publish them.

Earlier on Monday, the National Investigation Agency gave its consent to allow Rashid Engineer to take oath on July 5 in parliament.

However, the NIA lawyer told the court that the consent must be subject to certain conditions, including non-interaction with the media.

The NIA lawyer suggested three dates from July 5 to 7. He said Rashid Engineer can take oath on any of these dates.

Defense lawyer Vikhyat Oberoi said July 5 is fine as July 6 and 7 are public holidays.

His lawyer also urged the court to allow Rashid to prepare her ID card and his CGHS card and open a bank account if the process is underway.

The lawyer also urged the court to allow Rashid's family members to be present at the time of taking oath.

Rashid has been detained for the past five years in a terror financing case filed by the National Investigation Agency.
