NEW DELHI: Delhi's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), investigating the registration and regulatory management of all private medical facilities running in the city, has found four allegedly illegally running private hospitals and 40 others with multiple discrepancies, officials said on Thursday. ,

In the wake of the massive fire that killed seven newborns at a neonatal hospital in Vivek Vihar on May 25, ACB teams have inspected 62 private medical facilities in several parts of Delhi in the last one week, he said.

According to a senior government official, in the first phase of the operation, 62 private hospitals and nursing homes were inspected and four of them were found to be running illegally.

"Of these four hospitals, two are located in Krishna Nagar and Kondli in East Delhi and one in Rajouri Garden in West Delhi and the other in Deoli area of ​​South Delhi. These hospitals failed to show any license or provide registration certificate from the concerned authority. Have been." the officer said.

He said 40 other medical facilities were found running with anomalies. Some of them were running with more beds than the sanctioned capacity, some were running without fire NOC (No Objection Certificate), proper fire-safety measures, old fire extinguishers or expired registration certificates.

Another ACB official said they have made a report after their first phase of inspection and informed the vigilance department about the alleged anomalies in the hospitals.

The official said they will soon start the second phase of inspections as there are more than 1,000 private hospitals and nursing homes in Delhi.

On May 25, six newborn babies died in a fire at the Baby Care Newborn Hospital in Vivek Vihar.Of the five injured children rescued from the hospital, one died during treatment on 31 May.

Ordering a comprehensive anti-corruption probe into the incident on 28 May, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena said the incident revealed "gross mismanagement, criminal negligence and collusion of health department officials" in approving and renewing the registration of nursing homes. Vivek Vihar Hospital owner Dr Naveen Khichi was arrested by Delhi Police after the hospital was found to be violating fire-safety norms. The hospital was allegedly treating patients beyond its capacity and its license had expired on March 31, officials said.

According to ACB officials, the investigation teams are examining the documents and registration certificates required for running hospitals and nursing homes.They are also probing the alleged involvement of government officials in allowing such facilities to operate in their areas, without proper registration certificates, licenses and safety norms.
