New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is considering carrying out a demolition drive in the Majnu Ka Tila area following a court direction to remove all encroachments and illegal constructions, sources said on Thursday.

However, residents of Majnu Ka Tila, where Pakistani Hindus are living, said they have not received any notice from the land ownership agency. Sources said a message will be sent soon.

Sources said they have also written to Delhi Police for adequate security arrangements to maintain law and order situation during the operation on Saturday.

In its order on April 3, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had said that the status report filed by the DDA did not disclose any effective steps by the agency to remove encroachments from the area.

NGT said in its order that the compliance report should be filed through e-mail at least a week before the next date of hearing, July 15.
