New Delhi: The Center on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that there was no indication of "massive malpractice" or localized pool of benefited candidates leading to abnormal scores in NEET-UG 2024.

He said that the data analysis of NEET-UG 2024 results was done by IIT Madras and as per the findings of the experts, the distribution of marks follows the bell-shaped curve seen in any large-scale examination that does not indicate any anomaly.

In a further affidavit filed before the high court, the Center said that for 2024-25, the counseling process for undergraduate seats will be carried out in four rounds starting from the third week of July.Meanwhile, the National Agency of Testing (NTA), which conducts the prestigious test, also filed a separate additional affidavit in the high court and said it has carried out an analysis of the distribution of marks in NEET-UG 2024 at the national, state and municipal levels. and central level.

"This analysis indicates that the distribution of marks is quite normal and there does not appear to be any extraneous factor that could influence the distribution of marks," the NTA said in its affidavit, which also gave details about the system in place to ensure confidential printing . of the questionnaires, their transportation and distribution.

Also, candidates scoring such high marks are spread across multiple cities and multiple centres, indicating very less likelihood of malpractice," he said.

Regarding counseling, the Center said that for 2024-25, the counseling process will be carried out in four rounds starting from the third week of July.

"For any candidate, if he is found to have been a beneficiary of any malpractice, his candidature will be canceled at any stage during the counseling process or even thereafter," he said. The Center said that regarding steps to be taken in the future to ensure that the examination process is more robust and isolates any kind of malpractice, has set up a high-level expert committee to recommend effective measures for conducting transparent, smooth and fair examinations by the NTA.

NEET-UG 2024 was adopted on May 5 by 23.33 lakh students across 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 overseas cities.

The Center and the NTA, in their earlier affidavits filed before the apex court, had said scrapping the exam would be "counterproductive" and would "seriously endanger" thousands of honest candidates in the absence of any evidence of large-scale violation of confidentiality.The NTA conducts the National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Undergraduate Degree (NEET-UG) for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
