New Delhi, Delhi Police has arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly duping people by offering huge returns in exchange for liking videos on social media. The officer gave this information on Friday.

He said that the accused was identified as Shubham Mishra, a resident of Gurgaon.

According to the police, the accused was part of a nexus that used to cheat people on the pretext of getting good returns by liking videos on social media.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said, "On January 19, a complaint of fraud of Rs 15.20 lakh was received from complainant Rajesh Pal of Karawal Nagar area of ​​Delhi."

In the complaint, Pal said that he had received a message from a girl on social media in which she had offered money in exchange for liking the video. The DCP said, initially he used to get Rs 150 for liking three videos.

"Later they were added to a group and asked to deposit Rs 5,000 for better returns. Trusting the fraudsters, they invested Rs 15.20 lakh for better returns," he said.

However, later the accused stopped responding and Pal realized that he had been cheated.

Tirke said, during the investigation, police traced the money transactions and found that Mishra often moved between Delhi, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

"On detailed analysis, it was established that transactions of more than Rs 1.5 crore were made from Mishra's account in a single day. Based on Technica surveillance, a raid was conducted and he was nabbed from Kapashera area," Tirkey said. .

He said the police found that Mishra was part of a nexus with his associates, mainly his childhood friends and classmates.

An FIR was registered against the accused under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. He said that efforts are being made to arrest his associates also.
