A single bench of Justice Amrita Sinha has accepted the petition. The case is to be heard in the second part of the bench on Monday.

On July 5, a youth named Sheikh Hussain Ali died in Midnapore Central Correctional Home. The body of Ali, a resident of Egra in East Midnapore district, was found hanging from the ceiling of the cell of the correctional home.

Although the police claimed that it was a case of suicide, the victim's family members have rejected the claims and have also refused to accept the victim's body.

Family members claimed that the victim was first beaten to death and then his body was hanged from the ceiling to make the death appear to be suicide. The family members also allege that they were not informed immediately after his death.

First his body was sent from the correctional home to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital and only then the family members were informed, as claimed by the family.

The victim was arrested by the police in a kidnapping case in the district. He was initially lodged in the Tamluk Sub-Correctional Home in East Midnapore district and was later shifted to the Midnapore Central Correctional Home.
