Kolkata: A CRPF jawan was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting two women in the city's Chitpur area. An officer gave this information.

He said that the soldier returning from election duty in Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal reached Kolkata Railway Station on Sunday night, from where he was to board a special train.

The officer said the jawan allegedly entered a house adjacent to the station on Sunday night and molested two sisters sleeping inside.

"Hearing the screams of the women, the local people went to their rescue and managed to catch the CRPF jawan when he was trying to run away. They then informed us and our officials took him into custody," the policeman said.

He told that both the sisters had lodged an FIR in Chitpur police station on the basis of which the soldier was arrested.

Reacting to the incident, CRPF West Bengal Sector IG Birendra Kumar Sharma said the force has started an investigation into the allegation and if the jawan is found guilty, "necessary action" will be taken against him.

"We have also started an investigation. If found guilty, appropriate action will be taken. The force will not tolerate any such behaviour," Sharma said.
