Hyderabad: A group of people pelted stones at police and HMDA officials during an anti-encroachment operation in Miyapur area here on Saturday.

A site officer of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) was injured in the stone pelting, he said.

According to a senior police officer, a lot of people had gathered on the land demanding that the government allot it to them and they have also erected some temporary structures, including huts, on it.

The police officer said that this land was allotted to HMDA by the government, but some people tried to encroach on it, after which the officers along with the police went there to vacate the land.

The encroachers were told it was government land and asked to vacate, he said, but some of them pelted stones at police and HMDA officials, resulting in injury to an officer.

Later the police chased the people from the ground.
