A decision on this is expected to be taken in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) meeting later on Monday.

Elections for three seats will be held on June 25.

The ruling Left party will contest two of the three seats, while the Congress-led opposition will contest the other seat.

On Saturday, top CPI (M) leaders met the CPI and Mani leadership separately and the CPI remained adamant that they would not give their seats to anyone under any circumstances.

KC (M) is the third largest ally of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left parties and suffered a blow when its only sitting MP from Kottayam lost the Lok Sabha elections on April 26.

With Jose K Mani's term also ending, there will be no representation in Parliament for the KC(M), so the party and its leaders are putting pressure on the CPI(M).

With Vijayan and his party facing another defeat similar to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when they managed to win just one seat, it remains to be seen whether they will put their foot down and cause an upset for Jose K Mani.

According to sources, to appease Jose K Mani, the CPI(M) is considering sharing the tenure of a Rajya Sabha seat with him and a clear picture is expected to emerge when the full LDF meets on Monday.

Jose K Mani heads a major faction of his father KM Mani's party.

Soon after his father's death, Jose K Mani joined the ruling Left Democratic Front and his party won five seats in the assembly in 2021. His junior colleague got a cabinet berth in the current Vijayan government.

The other faction led by veteran MLA PJ Joseph is with the Congress-led UDF.

Jose K Mani suffered a setback when he lost the 2021 assembly elections from his father's traditional seat.
