Jajpur (Odisha): A man and his wife were killed and three others seriously injured when the car they were traveling in collided with a parked truck on NH-16 in Odisha's Jajpur district on Thursday. were injured. Police gave this information.

The incident took place in the early hours near a petrol pump on the outskirts of Panikoili market within the limits of Panikoili police station when the car was going from Cuttack towards Balasore, police said.

Police suspect that the driver of the car possibly lost control of the vehicle and hit the parked truck from behind.

The deceased were identified as Binod Bihari Jena and his wife Sumitra Jena, residents of Soro area of ​​Balasore district.

Soon after the accident, local people and fire department officials reached the spot to rescue all five people in the car, including the driver. A police team also reached the accident site to join the rescue operation.

The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared the couple brought dead, a police officer said.

The remaining three injured were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

Police have seized the car and started investigation.
