"The construction of a Hindu temple in Moscow will be a positive development," an Indian-origin lawmaker in Russia told IANS during an exclusive interview.

He said that there are many Russians who have converted to Hinduism and if the Russian government takes steps to build a temple in Moscow, they would very much welcome the move.

He said that unofficially there are many temples in Russia and everyone knows this, but officially building a temple in Moscow will be a big message for Hindutva.

“We must understand that Russia is not inclined towards any particular religion. Christians are in majority here, there is also a substantial population of Muslims, Buddhists and other religions,” the MLA said.

There is a growing demand to build a temple in Moscow ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia to attend the 22nd India-Russia summit on July 8 and 9.

It is noteworthy that this is PM Modi's first visit to Russia after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022.
