Sangli (Maharashtra): Congress leader Vishal Patil, grandson of former Maharashtra Chief Minister late Vasantdada Patil, who wanted a partial ticket from Sangli Lok Sabha constituency, filed his nomination as an independent candidate here on Monday.

Congress, a component of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), had staked claim to Sangli in western Maharashtra, but the constituency was allotted to Shiv Sena (UBT) as per the seat-sharing formula finalized by the three-tier opposition. alliance.

Recently, Vishal Patil and Congress MLA from Palus-Kadegaon in Sangli district Vishwajit Kadam met top leaders in New Delhi and requested them to get the Sangli seat in the state's sugar belt for the state's oldest party.

However, their efforts did not succeed as the Uddhav Thackeray-led organization flatly refused to give up the seat.

On Monday, Vishal Patil visited the District Election Office along with his supporters and filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate.

Shiv Sena (UBT) has fielded wrestler-turned-politician Chandrahar Patil from Sangli, which will go to polls in the third phase on May 7 along with 10 other Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

The last date for filing nomination papers for parliamentary seats going to polls in the third phase is April 19.
