Jalandhar (Punjab), AAP on Sunday alleged that the son of Congress's Jalandhar West Assembly by-election candidate sold residential plots from a piece of commercial land without permission.

However, Surinder Kaur rejected the allegations and said that the ruling party was "upset" due to the "overwhelming support" it was getting from people in the constituency.

AAP has made these allegations before the by-election on Jalandhar West assembly seat to be held on July 10. The by-election, necessitated by the resignation of Sheetal Angural as AAP MLA, will be held on July 10 and counting of votes will take place on July 13.

Congress has fielded former senior deputy mayor of Jalandhar Kaur from this seat.

AAP leader Pawan Kumar Tinu told reporters that when Kaur was senior deputy mayor, her son had purchased a piece of commercial land in Deol Nagar.

Tinu alleged that he is now selling residential plots from commercial land parcels without any change in land use or license.

He further alleged that no permission was taken from the competent authority to sell the residential plot.

He said this was illegal and demanded a vigilance inquiry into the matter.

Tinu further claimed that as senior deputy mayor, Kaur never carried out a single development project in Jalandhar.
