Thiruvananthapuram, April 17 (): The Congress in Kerala on Wednesday approached the Election Commission demanding strict measures to ensure that postal votes are stored in sealed ballot boxes for transparency in the vote-from-home system, Not in a loose carry-bag.

The Election Commission has launched the Vote from Home (VFH) facility for senior citizens and people with disabilities in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Senior party leader and leader of opposition in the state assembly V D Satheesa lodged a complaint with the Election Commission seeking immediate intervention in this regard.

He alleged in the complaint that many such incidents have come to light in the states where votes were taken in loose carry-bags.

"This will disrupt the election process and affect the results in tightly contested constituencies," the opposition leader said.

In the complaint, Satheesan reminded that his earlier letter had requested to ensure that votes were kept in sealed ballot boxes instead of carry-bags.

He also stated that he wanted the candidate's chief election agents to be informed in advance about the polling schedule.

"However, it is quite shocking to note that despite repeated requests, votes are being taken in loose covers in gross violation of relevant instructions in this regard," the Congress leader said.

He also stressed the need to ensure a free and fair voting process from home ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
