New Delhi, Congress and National Conference on Monday announced an alliance to contest the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and each fielded candidates on three seats.

At a joint press conference here, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said the Congress will contest from Udhampur, Jammu and Ladakh Lok Sabha seats, while the National Conference will field its candidates from Anantnag, Srinagar and Baramulla.

"I want to formally announce that the National Conference and Congress will jointly contest the elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh with three candidates each from both the parties," Abdullah said.

He said, "National Conference will support Congress candidates on Udhampur, Jammu and Ladakh seats. India Bloc will contest the elections to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and help them truly represent them in Parliament.,

The seat-sharing agreement was finalized after discussions between Congress and NC leaders. Congress seat sharing committee member Salma Khurshid was also present during the joint press conference.

Asked if PDP is still part of the India block, Khurshid said, "PDP is our alliance. Adjustment of seats is a part of the alliance and the overall alliance is a separate issue. Since Jammu and Kashmir is small in area, So despite our best efforts there is not much scope for seat adjustment."

PDP has announced the names of candidates for three seats in Kashmir and has fielded Mehbooba Muft against DPAP president Ghulam Nabi Azad in Anantnag.Khurshid said, 'National Conference already has three Lok Sabha MPs and we have decided to give them a chance.'

When asked whether Omar Abdullah would also contest the elections, the Congress leader said that in such a situation, another press conference would have to be called in Srinagar after taking a decision.
