New Delhi [India], Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emergency comment, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge singled out the center and questioned how long they want to govern by talking about emergency.

"You'll say this 100 times. Without declaring an emergency, you're doing this. How long do you want to govern talking about this?" Kharge said.

"...Modi Ji tried to violate the Constitution, that is why today the leaders of all parties have gathered and are protesting. There was a statue of Gandhi here. They are violating all democratic norms. That is why today we want to show that Modi Ji, We must move forward according to the Constitution...", he added.

Slamming PM Modi over the 'emergency' comment, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to social media platform INDIA is telling him: consensus, not confrontation. The non-biological prime minister is telling the opposition: discussion, not disruption. INDIA is telling him: assistance, not absence.

Notably, Prime Minister Modi lashed out at the opposition over the Emergency as he addressed the media outside the new Parliament building before taking oath as a Member of Parliament.

Recalling the 21-month emergency period that was implemented in the country on June 25, 1975, Prime Minister Modi said that India's new generation will never forget that moment when the country became a prison, adding that They will take a resolution of a vibrant democracy so that no one dares to do something like this in India again.

"Tomorrow is June 25. June 25 marks 50 years since the stain was put on India's democracy. India's new generation will never forget that the Constitution of India was completely rejected, every part of it "The Constitution was torn to pieces, the country became a prison and democracy was completely suppressed," he said.

"While we protect our Constitution, while we protect India's democracy and democratic traditions, the countrymen will adopt a resolution so that no one dares to do something like this in India again, as was done 50 years ago. We will adopt a resolution for a vibrant democracy. We will take a resolution to fulfill the dreams of the common people as per the instructions of the Constitution of India," Prime Minister Modi said.

The Prime Minister concluded his speech by stating that the country hopes and expects the opposition to maintain the dignity of democracy, adding that the people want substance, not slogans.
