Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), police are investigating the "suspicious death" of Congress leader Jayakumar Dhansingh from all angles, including political rivalry and financial disputes, and are following proper scientific procedure of investigation in the case, said Inspector General of Police (South Zone) N. . Kannan said on Monday.

Senior IPS officers were monitoring the case and ten special police teams have been formed to investigate. He said the statements of Jayakumar's relatives and the suspects were also recorded.

"The case is still in the interim stage as a suspicious death. DNA samples have been sent for analysis. And we have not yet received the postmortem report," the IGP told reporters here.

The burnt body of Tirunelveli East District Congress President Jayakumar was found with his legs tied at his farmhouse in the district on May 4, sparking a political controversy in the state.

A day before Jayakumar's body was found, his son J Karuthaiah Jaffreen had filed a complaint with the Uvari police saying that his father had gone missing on May 2.

"There were no injuries on his body. There was a scrubber in his mouth. We have sent his handwritten statement and other evidence for detailed forensic analysis," Kannan said.

He said that it is being investigated as a case of suspicious death as the initial report has not confirmed murder or suicide.
