Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader VD Satheesan on Monday welcomed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Wayanad and expressed confidence that she will achieve a record victory margin in the high-ranking constituency in the upcoming by-elections.
"Rahul and the party are nominating Priyanka, who is even more popular in her most beloved Wayanad," Satheesan, leader of opposition in the Kerala Assembly, said in a Facebook post.
She said, by achieving a historic victory in the upcoming by-election for Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, she will become the favorite of the entire state.
The Congress state unit's reaction came soon after party chief Mallikarjun Kharge announced in New Delhi that Rahul will retain the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh and vacate the Wayanad seat from where his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest.
Rahul had won from Wayanad and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituencies and has to vacate one seat within 14 days of the Lok Sabha results declared on June 4.
