Bengaluru, accusing the Congress government in Karnataka of being in deep lethargy and mired in competition for Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister posts and internal divisions, Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Sunday urged CM Siddaramaiah and his administration to "wake up" and save the people.

Highlighting health issues like dengue cases, deteriorating law and order situation and stalled infrastructure projects in the state and city, among others, the Bengaluru North MP accused the Siddaramaiah government of having forgotten the people in the midst of their internal divisions.

"There are several issues in the city and the state, and there is no government here to respond to them. This government is in a deep sleep. There is no use saying anything to this government, it will be like pouring water on a rock," Karandlaje said.

While talking to reporters here, he said that the only thing that is happening in this government is the competition on who should become the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, and due to this competition and internal division, the government which is in Karnataka has forgotten the people of the state.

"The government has to wake up immediately before more lives are lost. Furthermore, the law and order situation has deteriorated, there are several cases of rape, murder and daylight murders coming to light, but there is a situation where there is no one to question. "That is why I urge the government and the Chief Minister to wake up and protect the people," he added.

Noting that apart from dengue, there are also reports of Zika virus cases in Karnataka, Karandlaje said people are being admitted to hospitals and there are issues related to availability of medicines and their prices.

Though the government has set a pace for dengue testing, no one is following it, he said, "There are reports of dengue deaths in Bengaluru, the government system has collapsed, the health department is fast asleep."

No work is being completed, infrastructure projects have been stopped mid-way without being completed, which has led to accumulation of water due to rains and generation of mosquitoes there, he said, "the Water Supply Board and "Bangalore Sewerage System (BWSS) is not working efficiently, there are leaks in the pipes which have also caused accumulation of water and sewage. Neither the government nor its departments are investigating this."

Further, alleging that neither the Chief Minister nor the Deputy Chief Minister nor the ministers of the state government have made rounds to inspect the projects that are not completed or where water is accumulating, causing mosquitoes, Karandlaje said that there are marshals in Bengaluru, but They are for collecting money or dedicating themselves to making money, and not for public works.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials and engineers are not visiting any district of the city, he alleged.
