New Delhi: Congress on Friday criticized the Center for the delay in releasing new Class 6 textbooks, alleging that the Education Ministry is "sabotaging" children's education.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh lashed out at the government over the issue, saying "the rot runs deep" or the incompetence reaches new heights every day.

"Even as the school year has started, the NCERT - the National Council (read Nagpur) of Educational Research and Training - has not released new science, mathematics and social science textbooks for class 6 students," Ramesh said.

The textbooks themselves have not been finalized by the National Syllabus and Teaching and Learning Materials Committee (NSTC), he said.

Ramesh noted that printing will take another 10-15 days.

Authorities expect a two-month delay before they can make new books available to students, he said.

"Either the rot runs deep or the incompetence reaches new heights every day!" Ramesh said.

The initial target of NCERT was to launch the new textbooks based on NCF 2023 this year only for classes 3 and 6. While the textbooks for Class 3 are available in the market, those for Class 6 They have been delayed.

It was only this week that the NCERT released new textbooks in English and Hindi for Class 6 amid the academic session.
