Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Congress candidate from Hamirpur assembly constituency Pushpinder Verma filed his nomination for the by-election on Friday.

Today was the last day to file nominations for the elections to be held on July 10.

Verma had contested the 2022 elections from Hamirpur seat, but lost to independent candidate Ashish Sharma, who is contesting on an NJP ticket this time.

Speaking to reporters after Verma filed his nomination, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said the three independent MLAs who left the assembly will have to face the anger of the people and the Congress will win all the seats.

Three assembly seats of Dehra, Hamirpur and Nalagarh fell vacant after the resignation of three independent MLAs.

These MLAs had voted in favor of BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan along with six Congress rebels on February 27 and later joined the BJP on March 23.

Later, addressing a rally at Gandhi Chowk in Hamirpur, Sukhu attacked the BJP for imposing by-elections on the people.

He said that BJP leaders are living in a fool's paradise and their aim of forming the BJP government in the state will fail as Congress will win all three seats.

He claimed that the party is already in majority and will easily complete its five-year term.

At present, Congress has 38 members in the Assembly, while BJP has 27 members.
