Raipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday targeted the opposition Congress, saying that it ignored the needs of the poor for decades since independence and never understood their pain.

Addressing a rally in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district, where voting will be held on April 19, he also said that the Congress manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections has the imprint of the Muslim League.

He said that corruption had become the identity of the country during the Congress rule.

The PM said, "Since independence, Congress ignored the needs of the poor for decades and never understood their pain."

“People asked what will happen to the poor during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they said I will give them free vaccine and ration,” he said, adding, “Because of the efforts of my government, 25 crore people have risen above the poverty line.

The Prime Minister said that he has come to thank the people for supporting our government in the last 10 years.

He said, "Crores of my countrymen, my mothers and sisters have become my protective shield."
