Thane, Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Raees Shaikh, who represents Bhiwandi East assembly constituency in Maharashtra, has urged the state government to scrap the condition imposed on power loom units to avail the benefit of the additional power subsidy scheme.

He made this demand in a letter written to State Textiles Minister Chandrakant Patil.

Shaikh claimed that the condition of fresh registration of power loom units to avail the subsidy scheme is creating difficulties for these centres.

Due to the complexity of the process involved in the new registration system, only 60 of the 21,000 power loom units in Bhiwandi have applied for power subsidy so far, he said.

Power loom units already have electricity meters, so the government should consider this as the basis for providing the benefit of the subsidy scheme. Shaikh said, otherwise, many power loom owners would be unnecessarily deprived of the benefits of the scheme.
