Ranchi: The Enforcement Directorate has seized Rs 1 crore in cash and 100 live bullets after raids in Ranchi as part of a money laundering probe against former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and others related to alleged land grab, officials said on Saturday.

This seizure was made on Friday evening from the premises of a person named Kamlesh Singh located on Kanke Road.

According to sources, the raid is being conducted against former CM and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren in an alleged land grab case, but it pertains to a different land plot.

The federal agency has also registered a police case under the Arms Act in connection with the seizure of live ammunition, he said.

As part of its investigation into the case, the ED has arrested more than 25 people, including Soren, IAS officer and former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan, Bhanu Pratap Prasad and others.

Land parcels worth Rs 266 crore, including plots spread over 8.86 acres in Ranchi's Bargain area, allegedly illegally acquired by Soren in Ranchi, have been attached by the agency and four chargesheets have been filed so far .

Soren, 48, has strongly denied the land-grabbing allegations and said the BJP-led central government had imposed the money laundering case against him as part of a political vendetta.

He was arrested by the ED from Ranchi Raj Bhavan on January 31, minutes after resigning from the post of Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
