A stretch of 12.5 kilometers from Digha to Gaighat is already operational, and an additional 4.5 kilometers has been constructed, extending it to Patna Ghat.

The JP Ganga Pathway is an important project aimed at reducing traffic congestion on the single-lane Ashok Rajpath, where widening of the road is not possible due to dense construction on both sides.

This four-lane road runs parallel to Ashok Rajpath along the banks of river Ganga, connecting Digha in the west to Malsalami in the east.

Completion of the third phase will provide better access to Patna Sahib Gurudwara to the commuters via Kangan Ghat. However, the construction of the approach road at Patna Ghat to connect to Ashok Rajpath is incomplete. The approach road at Kangan Ghat has been completed and will be operational.

The first phase of JP Ganga Path, from Digha to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), became operational on June 24, 2022. The second phase, from PMCH to Gaighat, opened to passengers on August 14, 2023.

The total length of the path from Digha to Malsalami is 20.5 km, pillar installation and section fitting work is underway on the remaining 3.5 km.
