Agartala, Tripura Commerce and Industry Minister Santana Chakma on Friday said the state government has constituted a high-level committee with the aim of promoting investment and industry.

Tripura's eight-member Investment Promotion Agency (IPAT) committee will be headed by Chief Minister Manik Saha, while Chakma will be the vice-chairman of the panel.

Chakma emphasized that IPAT will act as the primary authority to promote investments and industries in Tripura, with a focus on overcoming hurdles such as land acquisition to expedite project implementation.

Highlighting recent achievements, Chakma said that during the North East Industry Summit in Delhi this year, the state government signed 14 agreements with potential investors. He said that currently, six entrepreneurs have invested Rs 29.85 crore in setting up industrial units, with an additional investment of Rs 750 crore expected in the near future.

Addressing infrastructure updates, Chakma said the Kamalasagar border haat in Sepahijala district will reopen soon. "The Joint Border Committee assessed the situation at the border haat, which was closed due to the Covid pandemic. We are optimistic about resuming operations soon," he said.

Further, the Minister underlined the ongoing cooperation with the Central Government to operationalize Maitri Setu at the earliest.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina in March 2021, Maitri Setu is important in enhancing connectivity and trade between the two neighboring countries.
