Bhaderwah/Jammu: A cloudburst on Friday caused flash flood in Thathri Bazaar in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to mud collapse of several houses and on the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway, causing major traffic disruption.

However, officials said there are no reports of injuries or deaths so far.

He said a cloudburst at around 3 am led to flash floods, which triggered massive landslides that affected the entire market area of ​​Thathri town and several residential houses along the highway, with some vehicles trapped under the debris.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Thathri Masood Ahmed Bicchu said the landslide caused by the sudden cloudburst was widespread, but fortunately the flash flood occurred near the sparsely populated Army Gate area.

"Despite heavy debris falling in the market area, there is no major damage and restoration work is underway," he said.

The SDM said that traffic on the highway has been partially restored.

"We hope that all the debris will be removed from the market area by afternoon," he said.

Earlier on July 20, 2017, a cloudburst caused extensive damage in Thathri town, with a dozen structures near Jamia Masjid washed away and several people injured. ORR/AB AS
