New Delhi/Mumbai, Air India has received feedback regarding the new cabin credential uniform, including fabric related issues and after considering the information, will soon start its production for all cabin crew.

In December, the Tata Group-owned airline unveiled new uniforms designed by Manish Malhotra for its cabin and cockpit crew.

Initially, the uniform was introduced with much fanfare for crew members of the carrier's A350 aircraft.

When contacted, an Air India spokesperson said on Monday that the production program of uniforms for all its cabin crew members would begin in about a week.

Two people with knowledge of the matter said the fabric used for the new uniforms had some problems, including that the color was fading rapidly.Another person said feedback on the uniforms would be considered before production of uniforms for all crew members begins.

“Air India can confirm that the uniform sizing and production program for its over 8,000 strong cabin crew members will commence in approximately a week.

"The new uniforms will be distributed to the crew at a later date, in line with the transition of Air India's flagship A350 to long-haul international service in the coming months," the spokesperson said in a statement.

In December, the airline said that the new uniform designs were developed in close consultation with its cabin crew representatives and the airline's in-flight service team, who also conducted an extensive testing exercise for the new designs.

AI India had said in December that the female cabin crew attire consists of a ready-to-wear ombre sari with intricate patterns reminiscent of Indian heritage architecture (jharokha) and wist (Air India's new logo icon), paired with a casual blouse and Paired with a blazer. The cockpit crew uniform consists of a classic black double-breasted suit with a Vista-inspired print, reflecting the professionalism, timelessness and seriousness of the flying profession, the airline said in December.
