Supporters of BJP and Congress clashed in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening during a protest over the remarks of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

The incident took place outside the state Congress headquarters where the BJP was protesting over Gandhi's remarks.

State BJYM president Abhilash Panda alleged, "When we were holding a peaceful protest outside the Congress Bhawan, our workers were pelted with stones. Some police personnel and journalists were also attacked."

"We demand an unconditional apology from Rahul Gandhi for insulting and hurting Hindus," he said.

Another BJP leader said a complaint has been filed at the Capitol Police station against Congress workers for the violence.

Apart from stones, both sides also threw cow dung at each other. Cow dung was also thrown on a hoarding of Gandhiji, which was later washed with milk by Congress workers.

The police had to work hard to control the situation.

NSUI state president Yashir Nawaz said, "Every person has the right to protest. But we have never seen violent protests organized by the BJP till date. People who have voted for the BJP will give them a befitting reply."

In his first speech as leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Gandhi had launched a no-holds-barred attack on the BJP, accusing the ruling party leaders of dividing people on communal lines.

His remarks were widely criticized by the ruling party, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticizing the Congress leader for calling the entire Hindu community violent. However, Gandhi clarified that he was speaking about the BJP.
