Patna: A 65-year-old woman was killed and her son injured in a clash between groups over the construction of a small drain in a village on the outskirts of Bihar capital Patna on Friday.

The incident took place in Chhotki Math village of Dhanrua police station area.

One group was opposing the construction of the drain, while the other wanted its construction to be done as soon as possible.

During the clash, stones were thrown at each other, resulting in the death of Devkunwar Devi, while her son Chhote Lal was injured.

"According to the villagers, the incident occurred when a dispute escalated between two groups of the village over the construction of a drain. The verbal dispute suddenly turned violent and people from both sides started throwing stones at each other." Dhanrua police station (SHO) Lalit Vijay told.

During the clash, a stone hit Devkunwar Devi's head and she fell on the ground, the police officer said, adding that she died in the hospital.

His son was also admitted to the hospital where his condition is stable.

A case has been registered and the search for the absconding accused has been started.

Many people were detained, Vijay said.
