Indore: The Congress accused the ruling BJP government in Madhya Pradesh of stopping it from promoting the None of the Above (NOTA) option in Indore, where voting was held on Monday for the fourth and final phase of general elections in the state.

Rejecting the allegation, the BJP said the Congress was talking "nonsense" to hide its failure after its candidate withdrew from the field.

The Congress campaign focused on asking voters to press NOTA option in EVMs after Congress candidate Akshay Kanti Bam quit the field and joined the BJP.

Speaking to reporters, Congress president Surjit Singh Chadha said, "When we sought permission from local authorities to campaign for NOTA through hoardings and FM radio, we had to approach the Bhopal-based State Election Commission for permission." Asked for."

He alleged that a woman councilor of the BJP had recently torn a poster calling on voters to press the NOTA option and the incident was reported on social media.Chadha claimed that Congress had set up tables near three polling stations, which were removed on the orders of the BJP.

NOTA was included as an option in EVMs in September 2013 to empower voters to express their choices.

State BJP spokesperson Narendra Saluja said Congress leaders do not understand that the Election Commission gives permission for campaigning because the Model Code of Conduct is in place and the BJP has nothing to do with it.

He said that Congress is talking nonsense to hide its failure after its candidate withdrew from the race.

Meanwhile, local BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh reached Ramakrishna Bagh polling booth in Gaur Dhar Road area and accused a woman official of asking voters to press the "NOTA" button.In another incident, police had to pacify Congress and BJ workers after they allegedly clashed over the NOTA option outside a polling booth in Nanda Nagar.
