State Election Commissioner (SEC) T. John Longkumar said that 670 nominations were submitted and later 79 candidates were withdrawn while 64 candidates were elected unopposed.

Four nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny.

He said no candidate is contesting the municipal council elections in Eastern Nagaland, where the Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) had called for a vote boycott in support of the statehood demand for 'Frontier Nagaland Territory'.

Former Nagaland Director General of Police Longkumar said a total of 2,76,229 voters, including 1,40,167 women, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the urban body elections.

Out of total 418 wards in urban bodies, 142 wards are reserved for women.

The SEC said that many national and local parties are contesting the elections. These include BJP, Congress, Janata Dal-United, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Naga People's Front (NPF), Rising People's Party, Republican Party of India-Athawale and Lok Janshakti Party. Ram Vilas.

The SEC had earlier served a show cause notice to ENPO, the apex body of seven backward Naga tribes in eastern Nagaland, which had urged people to abstain from participating in the civic polls to press for their statehood demand. People in six districts, which have over four lakh voters, responded to its call to stay indoors during voting for the state's lone Lok Sabha constituency on April 19.

SEC officials said 108 companies of state security forces would be deployed to maintain security, while 8,100 personnel would be deployed to conduct civilian elections.
