Los Angeles [US], Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his iconic role of Tommy Shelby in the 'Peaky Blinders' film.

As Variety reports, Netflix has officially greenlit the project.

"Tommy Shelby returns. A Peaky Blinders movie starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix," a post on Netflix's official

Cillian was excited to return as Tommy Shelby, saying, "It's like Tommy Shelby wasn't finished with me... It's very gratifying to work with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the film version of 'Peaky Blinders' This is one for the fans."

Tom Harper (Heart of Stone, The Aeronauts, War and Peace) is directing the untitled film. Harper is no stranger to Peaky, having directed the previous half of Season 1.

"When I first directed 'Peaky Blinders' 10 years ago, we didn't know what the series would become, but we did know there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. 'Peaky' is Harper said, "This has always been a story about family – and so it's incredibly exciting to reunite with Steve and Cillian to bring the film to audiences around the world on Netflix."

Plot details and further casting have been kept secret. The film will begin production later this year and will be made in collaboration with BBC Film.
