New Delhi. Below is the chronology of events in the excise tax.

Policy-related money laundering case in which a Delhi court on Thursday granted regular bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal:

* November 2021: Delhi government introduces new excise policy.

* July 2022: Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommends that the CBI investigate alleged irregularities in policy formulation and implementation.

* August 2022: CBI and Enforcement Directorate register cases related to alleged irregularities.

* September 2022: Delhi government scraps excise policy.

* October 30, 2023: The Department of Education sends the first summons to Kejriwal in a money laundering case to appear on November 2.

* December 2023: The Education Department issues two more summons to Kejriwal for questioning on December 21 and January 3.

* January 2024: ED issued two more summons to Kejriwal for January 18 and February 2.

* February 3: ED files a complaint against Kejriwal in the trial court for skipping summons.

* February 7: Trial Court summons Kejriwal on complaint to ED.

* February: The Department of Education issues summons for Kejriwal's appearance on February 19 and March 4.

* March 7: The trial court issues summons to Kejriwal over ED's fresh complaint against him for evading summons.

* March 15: Sessions court refuses to stay proceedings against Kejriwal for failing to comply with summons.

* March 16: The trial court grants bail to Kejriwal on ED complaints against him for skipping summons after appearing before it.

* March 21: Delhi HC refuses to grant protection from arrest to Kejriwal for his petition challenging the summons issued to him. The ED arrests Kejriwal soon after.

* March 23: Kejriwal moves Delhi HC challenging the ED's arrest of him and a trial court order keeping him in the agency's custody.

* April 9: HC dismisses Kejriwal's plea against arrest by ED.

* April 10: Kejriwal moves SC challenging HC order upholding ED's arrest of him.

* April 15: SC seeks ED's response by April 24 on Kejriwal's statement challenging his arrest.

* April 24: ED tells SC that Kejriwal guided the investigating officer through his conduct "to get satisfaction" that he is guilty of money laundering.

* April 27: Kejriwal tells SC that his "illegal arrest" in the case constitutes an unprecedented attack on the principles of democracy based on "free and fair elections" and "federalism".

* April 29: SC questions Kejriwal's non-appearance before the ED despite repeated summons to record his statements and asks whether he can challenge the arrest for not recording his version.

* May 3: SC says it may consider granting interim bail to Kejriwal in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

* May 8: SC says it will issue interim bail order to Kejriwal on May 10.

* May 10: SC grants interim bail to Kejriwal till June 1 to campaign in Lok Sabha elections, says he will have to surrender and return to jail on June 2.
