New Delhi, Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan on Sunday visited France to further expand bilateral defense and strategic ties, especially in the Indo-Pacific region, where Chinese military power is growing.

General Chouhan is scheduled to hold extensive talks with senior French civilian and military leadership on ways to strengthen military cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.

"The objective of the visit is to further strengthen the strong defense ties between the two countries, which have grown significantly over the last few years," the Defense Ministry said without specifying the duration of the visit.

General Chauhan's visit to France is important as it is taking place amid rising tensions in West Asia.

Officials said the overall regional security scenario, including the situation in the Indo-Pacific, is likely to be discussed in the Chief of Defense Staff's talks with top French negotiators."During his visit, General Chauhan is scheduled to interact with senior civil and military leadership of France, including his counterpart French CDS, GE Thierry Burkhard, Director IHEDN (National Institute for Higher Defense Studies) and Director General Armaments. " The ministry said in a statement.

General Chouhan is also scheduled to visit the French Space Command and LAN Forces Command and address student officers of the Army and Joint Staff Courts at the École Militaire (Military School).

The minister said he plans to visit and interact with some of France's prestigious defense industries, including Safran Group, Naval Group and Dassault Aviation.

It said the CDS will also visit the Neuve-Chapelle Memorial and the India Memorial in Villers-Guislain and lay wreaths in honor of the brave Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the First World War.
