CHENNAI: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday alleged that the BJP and AIADMK are fighting the July 10 Vikravandi by-election through 'proxy' PMK and the India Bloc will have to ensure a landslide victory for the DMK candidate.

Hitting out at AIADMK, Tamil Nadu's main opposition party, for boycotting the by-election, in a post on Twitter, Chidambaram said: "AIADMK's decision to boycott the Vikravandi by-election is clear proof that it needs to be taken from the 'top' for electoral convenience. Instructions have been received. Both BJP and AIADMK are contesting through proxies. INDIA will have to ensure a landslide victory.

Tamil Nadu's main opposition party, AIADMK, on June 15 announced boycott of the by-election for Vikravandi assembly constituency, alleging that the ruling DMK would indulge in 'violence' and not allow people to vote 'freely'. Pattali Makkal Katchi, a constituent of the BJP-led NDA in Tamil Nadu, on Saturday announced that party vice-president C Anbumani will contest the Vikravandi bypoll. Before others, DMK had announced its candidate for the by-election, Anniyur Siva.
